With nearly 40 years’ experience in the security and crime prevention industries, Martin Smith is a well-known,
colourful and highly respected personality in the information assurance and cyber security world. He is an
established and successful businessman and philanthropist, communicator, visionary, and internationally
recognised author, speaker and (latterly) blogger on his passion of improving online trust. He has an extensive
and enviable network of security contacts around the world.
Martin is a Fellow of The Security Institute, and a Freeman of both the City of London and the Worshipful
Company of Information Technologists. He is an active member of both ASIS International and the Information
Assurance Advisory Council. He is a member of the Independent Advisory Panel of the Office for Nuclear
Regulation. In 2017 Martin received a lifetime achievement award at The Outstanding Security Performance
Awards for his services to the security industry.
Martin has always been passionate about delivering effective and long-lasting change within the security
industry. In 2004, he founded SASIG as a subscription free networking forum for security practitioners. The SASIG
community is now 3,000+ strong from 1,000+ organisations. SASIG runs 35+ events each year, all free to attend.
Martin married his business partner Josephine Wise. They spend as much of their spare time as possible at their clifftop hideaway in the beautiful seaside town of Whitby, Yorkshire, enjoying the countryside and long beaches with their Border Terrier and official office dog Doris.
